The recently concluded KL Tigers Petra International Rugby 10s held at Epsom College proved to be successful as it brought together 120 teams from different categories battling it out to be champion. The tournament successfully bridged teams from different countries as they learned to play the game better.
The PETRA Group supported the tournament, the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia and was in line with its core values. Datuk Vinod Sekhar, Chairman of Petra Group said “Rugby and PETRA Group are expanding globally and both share core values such as perseverance, integration and continued innovation”. He has also been kept busy with other projects within the group, one such project is Liar’s Dice, a India-Malaysia co-production which was India’s Official Entry for the Best Foreign Language film for the 87th Academy Awards. The film deals with the issues such as the cost of migration, migrant worker labourer exploitations through the story of a young mother living in a remote village, whose husband goes missing after having left to work many months before.
There has been a strong focus on making movies and shows, with the addition of Datuk Vinod Sekhar’s close friend, Patrick Teoh as he will be taking on the role as Executive Director of Petra Media and a director of The Sekhar Institute. The addition of this veteran combined with Datuk Vinod Sekhar’s vision will set the local film industry alight.
Indeed, Datuk Vinod Sekhar is no stranger to the film industry, as he made a joint venture with Disney-MGM Studios in Florida to produce a movie entitled Tarzan, the Epic Adventure and he was the host of Malaysia’s first English talk show.
Being an accepted part of the glitterati within the entertainment industry, it is no wonder that as a progression, Vinod Sekhar will be venturing into opening two exclusive nightclubs located on Jalan Raja Chulan. With a magnificent, multi-million ringgit view of Kuala Lumpur, partygoers can look forward to enjoying the superb music, and the cushy environment. The names and exact locations of the two “must be seen” venues are still under wraps, although whispers are surfacing in town by a select few that previews were held very recently. Tantalizing hints are being dropped on social media with the names TARA and Elysium.
Both venue are set to celebrate its official launch soon, and some say that it might even be ready. One fun fact is that there is a secret entrance to TARA’s inner sanctum, while Elysium was created by Datuk Vinod Sekhar, Datuk Eric Chong and Oscar winning producer Bruce Davey.
